As far as I know, no one else has done the entire canyon since we finished it on 1/2/09. That is not as important as the fact that this will be OUR first continuous run up Crowbar!
This could be a long day depending upon how many rigs we have in the group so we will be starting a little earlier than usual. Anyone who is late will have to catch up to us. We should be delayed a little while winching on Ballerina Rock!
Vince, Steve B., and I will be camping at Melville Heights camp Friday through Sunday. All are welcome there. I will post up a link with directions 2 weeks before the run. If too many people are coming to Melville Heights Camp the overflow would be about a mile away on Melville Dry Lake itself.
If you are just coming for the day it would be quicker to meet us on Soggy Dry Lake as we head to Crowbar.
We will leave Melville Heights Camp at
0800 SHARP! We will leave Soggy Dry Lake (Bessimer Mine Road, in the middle of the lakebed) at
0830 SHARP!This trail is rough, and as difficult as the easier Hammer Trails. Body damage is possible. Double locked, low gears, and rock sliders are mandatory. Mere mortals (like me) will need to winch twice, so winches are also mandatory. I would not drive a Samurai up the loose/steep final climb out of the canyon, but if you want to give it a try we will help you!
Update:The directions to Melville Heights Camp are now available here:
