From Victorville, exit the I-15 at Bear Valley Road, head East. Pass out of Victorville and enter Apple Valley. Continuing East, intersect Hwy 18 and head toward Lucerne Valley. In Lucerne Valley (the last gas if coming from this direction) stay on the same road, which becomes Hwy 247, continuing East. About 20 or 30 minutes from Lucerne Valley watch for milemarker 20. Just past this milemarker ( at about 20.8 ) watch for the Boone Road entrance to Johnson Valley Off Highway Vehicle Area, turn left onto Boone Road. Head North/Northeast on Boone Road to Means Dry Lake (keep to the most travelled road and you can't miss it). You have entered the "Hammer's Zone"!
From the North (Barstow), take Hwy 247 South to Lucerne Valley and follow the directions above.
From the South (Yucca Valley) take Hwy 247 North/Northwest past Landers to milepost 20.8 and follow the directions above (except for a right turn on Boone Road).
Nearest Gas and Supplies are at the Mojave Market in Landers... 11.5 miles South/Southeast down Hwy 247 from Boone Road. Open 0630-2230 Friday and Saturday, 0630 - 2130 Sunday to Thursday (yes... they have Beer!)
