Once again I will be helping out with KOH this year.

I will be coordinating film crew transport again and am working with Jeff Knoll on recon/planning for the course, as well as coordinating course marking.

I will be out at Means for the entire week again, maybe more? :ugeek:

This year looks to be bigger than last year with something going on every day.

We plan to have the course be more spectator friendly, but it will also be longer and tougher, many racers will finish in the dark.

The Last Chance Qualifier will now be a 2 day event (Tues and Wed) and will be longer and more difficult. Thur will be a UTV (side-by-side) race.

Most of my trips and spare time between now and the race will be dedicated to KOH 2010.

Be there or miss out! ;)

Sorry to dredge up old regrets... I was looking through my collection of pictures that I snagged off of various reports after the race and noticed you in this one (for the first time as well). It is a great picture! It looks like you are about to take the Shannon Campbell line up past the plaque. Were you any gentler about it than Shannon was?

Hey no problem I loved the race even the parts I wish I could do over.

The regret is just that. I realised I was just a participant and not a racer when I did not pull the trigger on that pass and let them right Joshim before I went on. I am still not sure how I would handle it again, we may get to see. Either way I am fine with it.

All is going well with race course planning! Over the Thanksgiving weekend Jeff and I were able to nail down about 95% of the 2010 course. We probably only need to do 2 or 3 more day trips to have it 100% complete. I could tell you all about it, but I would have to kill you. Please submit all requests for information via email. I will dispatch a hit man 1 hour after I send you the data...

I have also taken on the task of creating the GPS files of the race course. As most of you know, I love maps, and this is the perfect task for me! :ugeek:

I have finally purchased a GPS. I did this for 3 reasons:

1) I need a GPS to properly and accurately plan and mark the race course.
2) I had a harder than normal time finding camp after dark on the last trip (when we did the full run up Crowbar). A GPS would have made this trivial.
3) It is about time!

I purchased a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. After MUCH research I know that this is the best GPS for me. This has been proven true with field testing over the last couple of weeks.

1) Portable/Hand-held.
2) Great battery life.
3) Excellent screen brightness. Much better than the currently available touch screen models.
4) Excellent Topographic maps (1:24,000 scale) available in the public domain. This saves about $100 per state! :ugeek:
5) Steve Bennett has had this model for over a year and highly recommends it.
6) It has everything I need, and nothing I don't, like a camera and MP3 player. Why pay for what I do not want/need.
7) The MapSource software that comes with the unit is great. Just download your tracks, manipulate them on your computer, and upload them back to the GPS when you need them. I can also highly recommend the GPS TrackMaker software, which is freeware, for use in converting data across many GPS manufactures.
8) More accurate than the currently available touch screen models, costing much more.

I also highly recommend the RAM Mount suction cup mounting systems. They hold fast to your windshield, even in tough conditions. It also stuck very well to the aluminum dash of a buggy this past weekend. I bought a Ram Mount for my SPOT tracker over a year ago and it has been flawless. Steve Bennett has had the same experience with his RAM Mount.
