Some of the FEW made it to the top. I turned back around 3:30 because it was getting cold and didn't want to get stuck at the top in the dark. I have a set of snow chains ordered for next time.

Wouldn't that be a "few" of the FEW? Laughing

Moose and I went up on early on Sat 12/20 and had a great time. We first went up a great side canyon of Lytle Creek, Coldwater Canyon. The snow started out at 2' deep and by the time it hit 3' deep in a half mile we were tired of playing snowplow. We would do full throttle 2nd gear low range runs into the unbroken trail and only get a car length, if even that!

The only reason we got as high as we did was that the snow was very powdery, like soap flakes!

Next we went up the main road and broke up to about the high point of your pictures. The snow was only about 2' deep there, except in a few drifts. We had lunch and headed back down.

We also saw the Cooper brothers taking the kids up to play in the snow. Someone later told us that Phil and Ron came upon a fire someone had left burning right on the road. They put it out.

Here is a gallery of some of the pictures Moose took.

Sounds great but I am either wrenching or doing family stuff Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Note: I edited the title of this thread from "Lydle" to "Lytle".

One thing you have to be careful with it running over a big snowman. One of the guys in a One Ton Land Cruiser saw a big snowman off the road He was driving up the road, approx. 30 mph, saw a snow man, decided to run it over. He hit the snowman, then the Land Cruiser stopped dead in its tracks. He got out to look to see what happened. Somebody had built a snowman, using a giant rock. There was a giant rock in the middle of the snowman. His front drive shaft came flying out, he sheared the leaf spring center springs, bent the leaf springs, and other damages. Basically he wiped out his whole front end.
That will teach him not to run over other peoples snowman. Shame on you

That is a very valuable life lesson! Don't run over someone else's snowman, you may be sorry!

Not funny, but someone is laughing about that somewhere. Probably did it on purpose. Those are some great pictures though.

I am planning on going back up on Friday or Saturday. My brother and friend Ron are going. I want to take the Fj up and play since last weekend
I took the Jimmy. Last weekend my brother snapped a left front axle joint
just after where the fire on the road was. He fixed it this week and is ready to go back for more.

Phil and I went back up there today and had a great time with the family. We went up the same side canyon as Mark, the one to the left. Our friends Ron and Matt also went. We did some sledding and had a fire (we purchased a fire permit) to cook hot dogs. It was a great day.

You're smart to get up there early. When we came down at around 4pm it was a mad house. There were people everywhere. I was glad we went up the canyon because we only ran into two other trucks who tried to make it up but they didn't get as far as Phil and Ron did so they turned back.

Had a great time. Broke the trial all the way to the top. On the left side. Made a fire and had 25 people around it. Had some trouble getting back down. A big chevy with 44" boggers was trying to pull a big ford up the hill and broke his front end and the ford started to slide off the side. Took us a extra hour to get them all back on the trail and turned around. Was a really fun day.

Good job!

Coldwater Canyon is great. The snow is deeper, the area didn't burn in the last fire so it is much nicer, and there are less Bozos (until you get back to the main Lytle Creek road that is).
