I am taking the 4Runner out to Johnson Valley over New Year's week, 12/29/09 - 1/3/10. That means exploring but no Hammer trails. I plan to camp at Melville Heights. Give me a call on my cell, 626-260-2481, if you want to come out, even for the day, so that I know you are coming.

At this point it looks like Vince will be coming out for the day on Wed.

Directions to Melville Heights:

Jasmine and I went out there yesterday and watched some super secret stuff that I can't tell you about for I will be tracked down and eliminated. Got some great pics too, of course I can't post them either.

From another post:

I could tell you all about it, but I would have to kill you. Please submit all requests for information via email. I will dispatch a hit man 1 hour after I send you the data...

It was great to see Ron and Jasmine. Robby is not going to be happy that he did not go. We got to watch as a promotional film was made for the Last Chance Qualifier. The course was run in short segments by Ben Napier at race speeds, including 2 near rolls and a jump at the end! Very cool!

This film will be released at the Pirate 4x4 live broadcast of the drawing of starting order for the Main Event and Last Chance Qualifier. It will be later this month, I think the 12th or the 15th. The LCQ course map will be released on that date as well.

Ron and Jasmine came out on Saturday (my birthday!) and I made them dinner and we enjoyed a roaring fire.

The other days I was by myself at Melville Heights. Nice and quiet. I made many trips over to Means to visit the Tin Benders and had a couple of KOH meetings. I did some great exploring as well.

I bought a 1/4 cord of wood and burned it all!

The highlight of the trip for me was getting a ride in Dave Cole's new KOH buggy for 15 minutes of go fast in the desert. What an amazing car! It is very fast and has a good chance of winning (with another driver, Dave can't race) if it stays together.

From an email to Fred:

Hi Fred,

The race will start at 0800 on Fri 2/12/2010. If you are anywhere near Means or Melville you may be crossing race course. Be very careful!
