This Fall the club is traveling to the beautiful and historic San Rafael Swell area in North East Utah! We'll be dry camping for 5 days a few miles off I-70 with lots of camping choices. The area has 100s of miles of easy to moderately easy trails that wind through narrow scenic canyons, pass by multicolored towering buttes, high mesas, and deep gorges. We'll visit the spectacular 'Little Grand Canyon', old mining areas, and a number of ancient indian petroglyphs seldom visited because of their remote locations. Some of us may also want to visit Moab, Utah, (The Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse State Park, 4x4 trails, etc.)- only 1-1/2 hours away! Like so many other wonderful off road trails, the San Rafael Swell is threatend with closure, so we want to enjoy the area while we still have access. Additional supplies, food, gas, and water are available at Green River, about 30 minutes East on I-70. Departure date is currently Saturday, October 1st. The weather should be quite pleasent, but begins to get colder towards the end of the month. We plan to stay the first night at a campground in Las Vegas ($$!) or Mesquite, Nevada, camping 5 days, and depart for home the following Saturday morning.
If interested in joining us come to our next club meeting (Thursday, Sept. 1st, Rick Phillips home), or contact me for further information-Join us for a great trip!
