My favorite part of the trip to Moab is the section of I-70 through the San Rafael Swell. Castle-like sandstone formations, high grasslands, and the promise of deep magical canyons. I have wanted to explore this area ever since I first saw it 10 years ago.

I plan to primitive camp out of my camper and explore with the 4Runner from a base camp. I may go home by way of Natural Bridges National Monument.

This will be an easy to moderate trip (suitable for stock rigs) with lots of exploring and hiking. There are slot canyons, pictographs, arches, and awesome scenery.

The hardest part of this trip will be not going the additional 1.5 hours to Moab!

Lots of pretty country in that area, you could spend years exploring and never see even a tiny part of what it has to offer. Careful if you take the road down from Mexican Hat, the first step is a long way down. Have fun and be sure to post lots of pictures.

You are probably refering to the Moki Dugway. NO, I am not going down that towing a trailer! I would take the long way around, through Bluff.

In my research of the area I have found so much stuff to do that I doubt I will go to Natural Bridges N.M. In fact, I will only scratch the surface of great things to do and see in the San Rafael Swell! :D

I am back.

I had a great time.

The Swell is OK, nothing to see there, move along to Moab (these are not the droids you're looking for)...
